Goldenvines Estate Wines are located on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand in the sunny city of Gisborne.
Goldenvines vineyard is situated on 10 hectares of the Golden Slopes of the Hexton Hills, owned and operated by Vicki Taylor and nestled on the lower slopes of Grays’ Hill. From the vineyard you look out over the Poverty Bay Flats towards Young Nicks Head to the south and to the tranquility of the bush and rolling hills to the north. The view from the top of the vineyard makes you realise that this is an idyllic setting for a vineyard and a very special part of beautiful New Zealand.
Tastings daily: 10am-11am & 4pm-5pm at The Works Cafe
Although half of the vineyard has been in production for over forty years, the vines have all been replanted over the last seventeen years with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc varieties. The vines are grown on a vsp system, without irrigation, in Waimata Silt loam soils, and tenderly nurtured to make the most of their location. There is peace and harmony surrounding the vines and this must make a valuable contribution to the quality of the wine. As the Goldenvines Vineyard have only the Chardonnay and Sauvignon vines growing on it, the remainder of the Goldenvine Estate wine varieties are sourced from other vineyards in this Gisborne East Coast region, picked for their special qualities and balance.
Goldenvine Estate wines are featured on the wine list of The Works Café Restaurant, along with other local and national brands, and can be bought from local liquor outlets and most restaurants.
The Works Café Restaurant is located in the “Old Brick Building by the Port”, the last remaining reminder of the Gisborne Freezing Works at the Port of Gisborne. The building housing The Works Café Restaurant was the “Sausage Factory” part of the Freezing Works and reminders of this are seen in the Restaurant. During the summer you can sit under the grapevine canopy and sample the ambience of this location and restaurant while watching the boats slide gently into the inner harbour. And in the winter, you can sit inside with the fire warming the exterior while the good wines and food keep the inside comfortable and warm. A truly heartwarming experience.
Come to Gisborne and see for yourself – and enjoy our special taste of a special place. |
